Painted solely with my palette knife, the thick layers of oil capture the movement and force of ocean waves—the left panel features a curling swell in rich blues and whites, while the right shapes a more circular, whirlpool-like form. Working that morning on Maui, I focused on the energy of the sea, using bold strokes to convey the waves’ shifting power and depth without relying on fine detail.
