Angela Wan Art

Angela Wan is a Honolulu-based artist whose work embodies relaxation, creativity, and the vibrant spirit of island life. She holds a Master’s degree in Media Art and Design from Drexel University and spent a decade as a product designer in Silicon Valley before fully embracing her artistic journey in Hawaii. Blending design thinking with painting, Angela expresses her creativity in a way that is playful, imaginative, and effortlessly chill.

When did you start creating? Was there a specific moment or inspiration that led you to it?
I’ve been a creator for a long time, working as a product designer specializing in user experience for websites and apps—where technology, psychology, and data shape the process. In my spare time, I would occasionally draw and paint, but it wasn’t my main focus. That changed in February 2024 when I was laid off from my job. Before transitioning to a new role, I suddenly had much more time to dedicate to art. For the first time, I experienced the pure flow of creativity, free from business constraints and technical limitations. Since then, I’ve been creating more and more artworks, fully embracing the artistic journey.
What emotions, messages, or themes do you hope to convey through your work?
I hope my art encourages people to relax and treat themselves well. Life is too short to be consumed by worries, and I want my work to remind people to embrace peace, enjoy the moment, and live with an effortless sense of chill.
What materials, tools, or techniques do you use, and why did you choose them?
I start by sketching concepts on my iPad, experimenting with different colors, compositions, and combinations. This process helps me refine my ideas before bringing them to life on canvas, ensuring each piece feels both intentional and dynamic. When it comes to painting, I love using acrylic and oil pastels for their vibrant colors and rich textures.
What was the biggest challenge you faced in your creative journey, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge on my journey so far has been navigating the transition from a beginner artist to making a living from my art. Right now, I’m still working as a product designer to support myself, as I don’t yet have the resources to pursue art full-time. To bridge this gap, I’m actively growing my social media presence and participating in more art events and markets to gain exposure.
It’s a work in progress, but I’m hopeful that with time, dedication, and persistence, I’ll be able to fully transition into life as a full-time artist.
Do you remember your first sale? How did it feel?
It happened at The ARTS at Marks Garage when I participated in the group art show HER Story in March 2024. It was my first time showcasing my work to the public as an artist, and seeing my artwork on the gallery wall was an unforgettable moment. I was beyond thrilled—not only to share my creations but also to see people resonating with them. The excitement of having my prints purchased for the first time was truly incredible!
Is there a particular piece or product that customers seem to love the most? What makes it special?

"Serene Blue"
"Surfing Girl"
"Sailing to the Sun"
"Laying on the Beach"
"Popcorn Bath"
"Drinking and Surfing"
People loves the colors, creativity and effortless sense of chill from them
What are your future plans? What do you hope to achieve through your creative business?
My goal is to create more artworks and have my own solo exhibition. It will be great if I will be able to publish my art book and open my art store.
Are you working on any exciting new projects or collections?
Yes, always creating. I would like to create a series of Aloha Girl, Aloha Cat and Aloha Puppy.
